Opening Act was proud to begin programming at Cobble Hill School of American Studies in the Fall of 2007.  Cobble Hill was meant to be a small school with a focus on American History when it was first founded in 1998.  However, in just a few years, its enrollment jumped from 400 to nearly 1000 students with many of the 9th grade students reading below the average grade level.  With energetic teachers and a passionate and dedicated administrative team, Cobble Hill already has a number of great extra-curricular opportunities for its students.  However, until Opening Act arrived, there were no ongoing theater based programs to help foster students’ creative needs.  The Cobble Hill actors who participated in Opening Act’s first year of programming showed an incredible level of natural talent and dedication.  They performed their original play, Weaving Harlem, at The Public last May, which took place at a Harlem beauty salon and explored one family’s destiny in the historical context of the 1920s, 60s, 80s and present day.  We look forward to seeing what this remarkable group will create this year.
