Our Schools
The schools we work with are selected based on need: we reach out to schools with a combination of low reading scores, low graduation rates and evident lack of theater programming.
Our students, while sharing a passion for artistic expression, reflect the diversity of New York City’s school population, representing immigrant communities from the Caribbean, Latin America and Africa: over 90% of our students are African-American or Latino.
This year, Opening Act will partner with eight New York City public schools: Clara Barton, Cobble Hill, Columbus, Franklin K. Lane and Tilden High Schools in Brooklyn, the High School for Graphic and Communication Arts in Manhattan, and Walton and Samuel Gompers High Schools in the Bronx.
All of our programs are offered at no cost to partnering schools. |
