Creating New Stages: Opening Act's Three Year Expansion Plan

Opening Act has a three year funding and capacity building plan to create the foundation to expand our programs and meet the needs of NYC public schools. We will bring our programs to one additional school for the 2005-2006 school year, three additional schools for the 2006-2007 school year, and five additional schools for the 2007-2008 school year – for a total of thirteen after school theater programs – all while maintaining a high quality of programming. Adopt a School Program

In order to bring new programs to more schools, Opening Act will partner with individuals and foundations who will “adopt” and support those programs. We will call upon the theater, acting and philanthropic community in New York and across the country to find individuals who want to sponsor a program at a school. Our programs are remarkably cost effective: $5000 for the current year, and $7000 for the 2005-2006 year and years thereafter when we hire an additional assistant for each program.

Keep the arts alive where they are needed most.

Opening Act operates free of charge to our schools, relying on the support of individuals to maintain our programs. Through the Adopt A School Program, you can provide a full year of Opening Act in one of NYC's public high schools in need. Bring Opening Act to a School in Need for One Year

Your donation of $5000 provides:

  • 30 weekly 2 hour after school sessions
  • 1 Opening Act Teaching Artist
  • 1 Opening Act Teaching Artist Assistant
  • 2 ensemble performances
  • 1 performance in a professional theatre space

As a Producer, Opening Act invites you to:

  • Attend or participate in an Opening Act Workshop at your adopted school.  You may serve as observer, interviewee, or Guest Artist for the Day so you have the opportunity to interact with your students first hand.
  • Have ongoing communication with your Opening Act Teaching Artist.  Your school's teaching artist will email you once a month with an update of your students and program, including the progress of their ensemble production and success stories from inside the classroom.
  • Attend an informal presentation of scenes created by your students in December at your adopted school.
  • Attend the student created and performed ensemble production in a professional theatre space in May.
  • List your name on both our website and organization literature as your school's sponsor.

  Your donation of $2500 provides:

  • 15 weekly 2 hour after school sessions
  • 1 Opening Act Teaching Artist
  • 1 Opening Act Teaching Artist Assistant
  • 1 ensemble performance

As a Director, Opening Act invites you to:

Cast Member

  • $400 — Supports two students for a year
